China’s state news agency Xinhua has presented the first virtual TV anchor, featuring a synthesized voice and human-like facial expressions and movements and capable of text-reading and reacting to video clips in a direct broadcast.

Xinhua presented its new TV anchor together with the Sogou.com search engine at the fifth World Internet Conference in Zhejiang.

The first AI presenters will appear in various Xinhua channels, primarily those in English and Chinese, as well as the Chinese social network WeChat and the press agency’s TV channel’s webpage.

The virtual TV presenter is now a full-fledged member of the Xinhua team and can work 24/7.
