The Council of Europe Development Bank will pay for the preparation of a feasibility study of the new building of the Univeristy Children’s Hospital, which is to be built in the area between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Visegradska Street, close to the highway, and not in the first hospital’s location, the Tirsova Street.

In addition to the donation of EUR 200,000, the bank will also provide an advisor for helping in the process of selection of the company which is to prepare the preliminary design of the new, 30,000-m2 hospital within this study.

The preparation of the study will take several months, following which a unified procurement procedure for the project and the construction of the hospital is to be carried out. Marko Blagojevic, head of the Public Investment Management Office of the Government of Serbia, says that this should shorten the time needed for performing this job considerably.

Blagojevic believes that the works on the new children’s hospital might begin by the end of 2018. The construction and the equipping will take three years. The new building will contain a surgery unit, a diagnostics center, outpatient units...

It is estimated that the construction of the new hospital will require EUR 55 million.

The necessity of expanding the University Children’s Hospital has been pointed out for three decades now. The idea to have the new building raised next to the old one, in the location currently featuring a parking lot, has been abandoned.

The location in New Belgrade where the new building of the Gynecology-Obstetrics Clinic Narodni Front is also supposed to be raised has also been considered and abandoned, as both specialized children’s hospitals, the University Children's Hospital and the Institute for Mother and Child Health Care, would be located in New Belgrade in that case.
