By the end of the year, the complete infrastructural equipping of work zones North 4 and Rimski Sancevi, as key points in the investment plans of the City of Novi Sad, should be finished, which will create additional opportunities for new capital investments.

– The negotiations with foreign and local investors about those attractive locations, possibilities and conditions for investments are in progress – points out Milorad Radojevic, member of the City Council in charge of economy, for Novosti, and adds that he can't divulge the names of the companies at the moment.

Radojevic says that it is very important that they are now synchronizing their activities to the end of drawing investments with Provincial and Republic authorities and institutions, which will surely increase the efficiency of the endeavor and produce desired results.

Radojevic, who has recently been appointed the head of the city's department for economy, points out that two building plots of land are intensively being prepared in the North 4 zone, of which the one with 8 ha of area is meant for a production facility of the company Lear.

– This American producer in the area of the automotive industry started operating on the premises of the Port of Novi Sad this year. At the same time, a 6 ha parcel is being prepared, which will be offered to potential investors, and we are also working, in cooperation with the Republic and Provincial Governments, on preparing and offering to investors the remaining 30 ha of the North 4 work zone.

The arrival of Lear and, slightly earlier, the American company Delphi, which will, as they've announced, create 5,000 new jobs soon, is a great incentive for other investors.

The City of Novi Sad is negotiating with both foreign and local companies and the main prerequisites for investing are orientation towards export and employing at least 50 workers.

Thanks to this kind of investment policy, as well as measures and programs of active employment, the unemployment rate in the territory of Novi Sad has been reduced from 30% to 15.5% in four years.

– The strengthening of economic activity has contributed to the fact that the city budget's tax revenue in the first six months was 7% higher than that in the corresponding period of 2015.

At the same time, the absolute rights transfer tax revenue is larger by 5%, which, according to Radojevic, proves that the real estate market has “woken up” and that construction activities have been restarted in Novi Sad.

Three halls

Work zone Rimski Sancevi is meant for both greenfield and brownfield investments in three halls owned by PE Poslovni Prostor. The location is meant for small and medium enterprises.

Employment incentives

To the end of realizing various employment programs, RSD 105 million has been set aside from the city budget this year, which puts Novi Sad ahead of other local self-governments by this criterion. For each new job withing the measures of active employment, RSD 200,000 is set aside, as well as RSD 150,000 to 400,000 for self-employment, depending on the line of business.
