PRVOSLAV DAVINIĆ
Minister of Defense, State Union of Serbia and Montenegro




1. Basic Data
Born in July 1938 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

2. Academic Accomplishments
Graduated from the Law School of the University of Belgrade. Received a Master Degree in International Law and PhD in International Relations at the same University. In 1994 was awarder a PhD in Humane Letters by the State University of Pennsylvania.



3. Work Experience
a) 1965 - 1966: Research Assistant in the Institute for International Relations and Economics, Belgrade;
b) 1967 - 1973: Research Fellow in the Stockholm Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Stockholm, Sweden;
c) 1973 - 1976: Research Fellow in the Institute for International Relations and Economics, Belgrade;
d) 1976 - 1998: International Civil Servant, United Nations, New York,
1979 - 1986 Special Assistant to the Under-Secretary, Department for Disarmament, DDA;
1991 - 1998 Head of DDA, appointed by the UN Secretary General.
e) July 1999 - September 2003 Ambassador in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro.



4. Main Work Functions
- Secretary General, Review Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on Biological Weapons (1980);
- Secretary General of the UN Special Commission on Iraq (1991-1995);
- Deputy Head, UN Delegation, Middle East Arms Control and CBMs Negotiations (1992-1994);
- Secretary General of the Fifth Review and Extension Conference of the States Parties to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (1995);
- Head of the Yugoslav Delegation, International Conference on the Implementation of the Military Annex of the Dayton Peace Agreement (Article V, Annex 1B) (2000-2001);
- Chairman of the National Authority for the Implementation of the Convention on the prohibition of Chemical Weapons (2000-2003);
- National Coordinator, Working Group III (military, police, justice), Stability Pact for South East Europe (2001- );
- Chairman of the Governing Board of the Yugoslav Mine Action Center (2002 - 2003);
- Member, Group of Experts appointed by the Federal Parliament to prepare a Draft Law on the Federal Security Services (Civil and Military) (May-June 2002);
- Lecturer at the NATO School, Oberamergau, Germany (2003 - );



5. Other Activities

- Has published a number of research papers in national and international periodicals and magazines on arms control and international security issues.
- Has participated in all major international meetings and conferences on disarmament, arms control and international security in the period from 1976-1998.
- Has delivered numerous lectures at the Universities, High Schools and NGOs in on issues related to the work of the UN in the field of peace and international security.
