The Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Aleksandar Antic, announced that today that his ministry in the next says will solve problems caused by cancellation of construction permit for wind park construction in Kovin.

The Ministry of Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure announced yesterday that it cancelled construction permit for the construction of Cibuk wind park at Kovin because Vojvodina Secretariat for Urbanism, Construction and Environmental Protection issued it illegally.

Continental Wind Serbia (CWP) should have built the Cibuk wind park. The investment was estimated at some EUR 300 mil and the wind park power should have been 145 MW.

The Ministry of Mining and Energy reminded that Serbia in line with the international contracts obliged itself that by 2020 it will spend 27% of electricity from renewable energy sources and that “it will not be able to pass at the Euroepan Union” if it does not achieve that.

- If Serbia does not build facilities for production of energy from renewable energy sources, it will be forced to import it. Therefore, it is in the interest of the country to invest in that energy sector – Antic said.

He reminded that the work on the new law on energy and new law on geological researches and mining is in progress.

Antic said that Serbia needs new energy facilities which, as he said, recent floods showed.

The priority of the ministry, as he said, is to invest in the Stavalj mine to increase the exploitation quantity from current 50.000 to 80.000 tons to two million tons which is, according to him, would generate conditions to build a thermal power plant at that location.

Antic added that new block in thermal power plant Kostolac as well as thermal power plant at Kovin should be built and that one of the priorities is the end of construction at TE-TO Novi Sad.

He pointed out that construction of another hydro power plant and putting into operation of already announced hydro power plants at the Ibar and the Drina is under consideration.
