Development of Digital Networks in Rural Areas of Serbia Begins – State Secures Half of Funds for Job Worth EUR 500 Million

The works within the project of development of broadband infrastructure in rural areas of Serbia, organized by the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications in a separate department of the “Radovic Sisters” Elementary School in the village of Zagorica, municipality of Topola, started on December 4.

– This entire project is worth EUR 500 million, of which EUR 250 million is the investment of the state, and EUR 250 million is the investment of private partners of telecommunications companies – the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, said while visiting the works.

As she added, within the first phase, 120,000 households will be connected to high-speed Internet, for which over EUR 150 million has been secured, of which EUR 118 million is a favorable loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and almost EUR 35 million is a donation to Serbia from the European Union.

In the first phase, approximately 4,700 kilometers of optical routes will be built and will cover around 700 rural settlements, 120,000 households and around 730 schools.

The completion of the first phase is planned by the end of 2023, and by the end of 2025, 100% of the territory of Serbia will be covered by high-speed internet, according to the website of the Government of Serbia.
