At the session held on July 1, the Government of Serbia proscribed special measures of protection of the populace from COVID-19 in the local self-government units where a state of emergency was declared due to the epidemic.

Among other things, in order to prevent the further spreading of the infection, the government decided to ban the gathering of over five people, outdoors or indoors, in these local self-government units, if it is not possible to ensure a personal distance of two meters and adequate personal protection measures, and it will not be possible to organize celebrations or sports and entertainment events either.

Also, the government limited the working hours of hospitality facilities from 7 am to 8 pm.

When it comes to preschool and education institutions, all preventive measures need to be fully implemented. Gatherings at education institutions will be postponed, and entrance and other exams will be carried out in compliance with all the measures of personal protection (physical distance of two meters, mandatory wearing of masks and gloves).

The use of outdoor and indoor pools, spa and wellness centers is not possible at the moment, but cosmetic and hairdresser's salons, beauty salons, fitness centers and gyms are to remain open, with full compliance with the protection measures (masks and gloves), the Government of Serbia says on its website.

Let us remind that, so far, the state of emergency was declared in four cities, Vranje, Tutin, Novi Pazar and Kragujevac.

Help for damaged facilities

At the same session, the decision was reached for RSD 200 million to be provided for citizens whose family and housing facilities were damaged during the June floods.

Based on local self-governments' records, the funds will be distributed as grants, so as to repair the damage as soon as possible.

Donation for vaccine research

The government reached the decision to pay EUR 100,000 in dinar countervalue to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) as the leader in the field of COVID-19 vaccination.

– The government has decided to take part in this project with its European partners and contribute to the global efforts to fight the pandemic through financial support to the World Health Organization aiming to strengthen the response of health systems to COVID-19 and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, which was founded following the Ebola epidemic in western Africa, so as to enable the development of vaccines for new diseases – the press release says.
