The acting director of the PUE Beogradski metro i voz, Stanko Kantar, stated this Sunday, July 21, that the French company Alstom was interested in delivering vehicles and systems – overhead contact lines and mechanical-electrical systems – for the Belgrade subway project.

Kantar told RTS that Alstom was interested in delivering vehicles and that the document said so, but that the construction part was not defined there.

– The construction part should be financed by China, based on the agreement between the two countries. The value of the project, Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said, is EUR 4 billion. This is the estimated price from the general project prepared by the French company Egis and we are yet to define the total price of the project and precise values within it – Kantar said.

What follows, he says, is the preparation of a good geological study which could potentially show “whether we have greater problems than we expect”.

– As Belgrade has been bored through in the past decades, there’s already a good basis for us – Kantar pointed out.

The plan is for the construction of the first two routes of the Belgrade subway to begin in late 2020, in Makisko Polje.

– The preparation of a hydro technical solution for Makisko Polje is currently in progress, as there’s the Zeleznik River and the Zarkovac Stream there, a basin of surface waters from Zeleznik and Zarkovo. A general regulation plan for the rail systems needs to be prepared – Kantar explained.

According to him, the contest for the preparation of the geological study for the first 17 kilometers would open next week, which, as he says, will be the most thorough study done in the past few decades.

The final routes of the first two lines of the subway have been determined – they will go from Zeleznik to Mirijevo and from Mirijevo to Zemun, but a third one is planned as well. The general project defines a period of four and a half years for the first phase. If the construction starts in 2020, the subway service might become available in 2025.
