Serbian Minister of Environmental Protection Goran Trivan stated that less than 10% of waste waters was processed in Serbia and added that close to EUR 5 billion would have to be set aside for the construction of 359 waste water treatment systems.

– The most important part of this ministry's activities in the past two years has been to create conditions for investing in the environment through the preparation of project-technical documentation which will be stimulated by a credit of EUR 200 million – Trivan said, as announced by his ministry.

Trivan and Mayor of Leskovac Goran Cvetanovic attended the beginning of the works on the second phase of the waste water treatment facility project in the village of Bogojevce near Leskovac, financed by the Government of Serbia through the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

With the realization of this phase of the project, along with the completed first phase and the works on the construction of the collector, Leskovac will have a modern central waste water treatment facility in 2020.

– The project of waste water management in Leskovac features three components: the construction of the collector of 5,150 meters, worth RSD 460 million, where the operating works began on June 26, 2019; the construction of the waste water treatment facility (both phases); and the expansion of the sewer system through the ORIO project, which will be carried out in 16 populated places with EUR 8 million financed through the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands – Cvetanovic said.

– The planning of the second phase began in September 2017, the building permit was obtained in April 2019 and the construction site opened on June 6. The works are financed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and they are worth around EUR 4.2 million – said Mayor Cvetanovic, as reported on the city's website.
