Serbian Minister for Innovations and Technological Development Nenad Popovic signed three agreements with the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) in Beijing, creating conditions for the works on the realization of the Serbian-Chinese Industrial Park project in the Borca neighborhood of Belgrade to begin.

The signed documents are the Agreement on Project Development, the Agreement of Founding a Joint Company and the business plan of the Serbian-Chinese Industrial Park, which will take up 320 hectares.

– I expect the works on the construction of the park to begin by the end of the year – Popovic said and added that the Industrial Park will be built in three phases and that over EUR 300 million will be invested in the construction.

He said that industrial and office facilities would be built and that, in additional to the traditional sectors, the focus will be placed on the development of innovations and high technologies.

– We want to make high-tech companies from China and the whole world come to Belgrade. Over 40 Chinese companies have already expressed a readiness to start producing at our industrial park – Popovic said.

As he said, the Industrial Park is expected to feature 1,000 companies of various profiles, which will employ more than 10,000 people.

He pointed out that, with the realization of the Serbian-Chinese Industrial Park project, Serbia was becoming one of the key technological partners of China within the “Belt and Road” initiative.

Serbia to host ministerial conference about innovations

This autumn, Serbia will host a ministerial conference about innovations within the “Belt and Road” initiative, which will bring together 17 ministers from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Wang Zhigang, as confirmed in Beijing at the meeting held between Popovic and Zhigang.

Popovic said that he was especially happy for the development of the two countries' relations in the fields of innovations and digital technologies.

Zhigang said that his ministry would try to incite as many high-tech companies from China to become a part of the industrial park in Belgrade.
