The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has decided to launch its own video streaming service.

Unlike most well known services which charge for the streaming, IMDb’s Freedive, and as the name suggests, is free. It will be financed through ads shown before and after the streaming of the selected video content.

As of now, Freedive is available to U.S. users only and already offers some TV shows, such as Heroes and The Bachelor, as well as movies, such as Memento and The Illusionist. The content is available to users in the U.S. on their computers and all Amazon Fire TV devices available in the market.

IMDb has been owned by Amazon since 1998, and Freedive can therefore be considered as complementary to Amazon’s Prime Video service.
