Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic has met with the president of China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), Zhang Chun, and the ambassador of China to Serbia, Li Manchang, on the occasion of the company’s engagement in one of the most valuable energy projects in Serbia – the construction of the new unit B3 at the Thermal Power Plant Kostolac. The value of the project exceeds USD 700 million.

The minister thanked CMEC for understanding the need of the Serbian side to have the project of the construction of the new unit develop in the best way possible, since this is the biggest project in the past 30 years, where the power of the new B3 unit will amount to as much as 350 MW.

He emphasized that there were efforts to obtain the permits and the necessary documentation, but that both sides had to be fully engaged in order for the project to be carried out through to the end, in line with the agreed deadlines.

Zhang Chun expressed his conviction that, following the meeting, both sides would have a clearer idea of the current state of the project, which is important for the further steps, and announced more frequent visits to Serbia for the purpose of intensifying the activities within the process of designing and building the TPP.

– In addition to hiring design engineers with good references and experience with procedures, our aim is to hire design engineers from Serbia. We assure our Serbian partners that the project will be realized by the end of 2020 – Chun said.

Minister Antic added that the Government of Serbia wanted to help CMEC to carry out all its activities within the announced deadlines.

– With the cooperation with Elektroprivreda Srbije, I am convinced that the project will develop successfully – Antic said, as per the ministry’s press release.

The meeting was attended by the state secretary at the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Mirjana Filipovic, representatives of EPS and representatives of CMEC.
