Preparations for privatization of Komercijalna Banka in progress

The preparations for the privatization of Komercijalna Banka are in progress and the National Bank of Serbia is taking part in them, NBS Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic stated today.

When asked by the press whether the NBS fears the possibility of the privatization of Komercijalna Banka and other challenges regarding the stability of the financial system, the governor emphasized that there was no reason to be afraid, not even due to the privatization of Komercijalna Banka.

– Regarding Komercijalna Banka, the state is not in the position to rush the privatization of any institution, including good financial institutions such as Komercijalna Banka, without looking into the advantages of the existence of one such bank, which is the leading bank in the market and where the state is the majority owner – she said.

As she added, the future co-owner and a shareholder in Komercijalna Banka can only be an entity that is desirable as an investor, in terms of financial strength, the experience in managing financial institutions and a long-term orientation toward contributing to the already strong position of the financial system in Serbia.

The state has a 41.7% stake in Komercijalna Banka, and other significant stakes are held by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with 24.43%, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), with 10%.
