STP Belgrade gets new innovation laboratory – Government announces EUR 65 mil for development of IT sector by 2021

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Ivo German, Operations Director for Economic Cooperation and Development at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), officially opened a new innovation laboratory at the Science-Technology Park (STP) in Belgrade on Thursday, April 19, 2018.

The innovation lab, which was equipped by SECO, the multinational company AMD and the Science-Technology Park Belgrade, contains 3D printers with the accompanying equipment, computers for virtual 3D modeling, as well as equipment for processing of materials, says the official website of the Government of Serbia.

After the opening of the laboratory and a tour of several companies which operate within the STP Belgrade, Brnabic said that EUR 65 million would be invested in the infrastructure for the IT sector over the next three years.

She announced that there would be more activities in the future that will help turn the ideas and innovations created at the STP Belgrade into production. As she explained, with the support of Switzerland, a total of 60 companies and around 500 engineers currently operate in the park.

The prime minister reminded that a science-technology park would soon be built in Novi Sad and that an annex to the building of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Nis was being built. She also announced the construction of a new building of the Institute of Physics, which is expected to establish cooperation with CERN, and that it was expected for Serbia to become a member of that organization before the end of 2018.


The prime minister also announced the construction of a center of excellence in agriculture and a business incubator, as well as smaller centers in Cacak, Bor and Zajecar, it is added on the website of the Government.
