EPS to invest EUR 864 million in environmental protection – Action Plan for ecology presented

Elektroprivreda Srbije will invest around EUR 864 million in environmental protection by 2025, it was said on Friday, December 15, 2017, at the conference called How to Make EPS Greener.

The director of the Strategy Sector of EPS, Aleksandar Jakovljevic, specified that close to 50 projects would be realized, with around EUR 650 million meant for air protection, around EUR 53 million for land protection, EUR 45 million for water protection, and the rest for waste management, reorganization... He also presented the Draft Action Plan of EPS in the field of protection and enhancement of environment for the period until 2025.

As he said, the Action Plan also includes the realization of environmental protection programs and the increasing of energy efficiency, which will be in line with national regulations and the EU standards.

State Secretary at the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Mirjana Filipovic, said that Serbia was getting involved in all the European trends in standards in the field of environmental protection and announced that the ministry would help EPS to realize its plans.

As she said, electrical energy is a local product and they create energy security and the stability of the country, but they also oblige to have all the facilities not in line with EU standards modernized.


Assistant to the minister of environmental protection, Aleksandar Vesic, pointed out that the ministry was new, but that it had already established successful cooperation with other fields, as well with EPS, and added that the first results in the field of environmental protection were already visible.

Vesic said that EPS was a socially responsible company and one of the cornerstones of the state's maintenance and development and added that it was not easy addressing all the ecological problems.

Daniel Berg of the EBRD welcomed the Action Plan of EPS and especially praised the fact that the company had presented its plan and program publicly.
