Belgrade-based company Hydrogen Technologies has developed and put on the market a unique technology for removing soot from engines and vehicle exhaust systems. Large amounts of the HHO gaseous mixture act as the main “energy source” for engine cleaning. The mixture is produced through an electrochemical process of water electrolysis. A machine was made for that purpose, containing, in addition to electrical energy assemblies, also a product of local creativity, a large-capacity HHO gas generator, unique in the world for its technical characteristics of energy efficiency. The machine is already being used in Great Britain, Germany and Macedonia, and the company announces the expansion of the production.

The quality and potential of the solutions of Hydrogen Technologies was recognized by the expert jury of the Aurea 2017 award, handed out by the business portal eKapija for the ninth year in the row, with the engine decarbonizing machine being shortlisted for the award.

– We have been present in the market for eight years, and we’ve been developing the technology for four years now. We’ve already contracted new exports, as there’s increased demand from the countries we’ve exported to. There are demands from the countries of the region as well, but also from America, Chile... – says Branko Hinic, CEO of Hydrogen Technologies, for eKapija.

The company’s current capacities are at five to ten machines a month and they’re planning to expand the production to 20 to 30 machines.

– We need an investment of EUR 250,000 to EUR 300,000 for this – Hinic says and adds that they’ve financed everything themselves so far and that they will now try to apply for grants at banks and funds.

In addition to mastering the process of producing engine decarbonizing machines to be adapted and offered to the automotive industry market, the vehicle and engine maintenance industry, as well as motor vehicle testing companies, Hydrogen Technologies is planning to further expand the network of Engine Decarbonizing Centers (the first one opened in Belgrade in 2016), as well the franchise concept of operations in the territory of Serbia, the region and Europe.

Furthermore, the company will soon register in Germany and Great Britain as well, in order to facilitate the export of this unique machine.

Benefits of the machine

The Engine Decarbonizing project is the result of a number of years of work and research in the field of using HHO, produced through an electrochemical process of water electrolysis. The experts at Hydrogen Technologies have determined that, after using HHO as an addition to the mixture of fossil fuel and air in internal combustion engines for a certain period of time, the engine is cleaned of soot particles accumulated in its components.

The implementation of the technology considerably reduces the emission of toxic gases, and, following a 45-minute treatment, engines soil all other assemblies far less, extending their life cycle, making for a noticeably smoother performance and increased power, and an enormous percentage of vehicles also spend less fuel.

At the time the project started, only one company from the Far East was offering HHO-based Engine Carbon Cleaning machines. The problem was that water electrolysis cells, which are at the heart of such machines, had low energy efficiency and small HHO production capacity, disabling them from cleaning IC engines of higher volumes.

New innovations

Hydrogen Technologies is also in the initial stages of the development and implementation of hydrogen stations.

– We need around a million euros for this project. The foundation of a hydrogen station is a water electrolyzer, so the basic pre-requirement has already been met. Further development will take place next year – Hinic explains and emphasizes that the stations are to be used for the company’s purposes, but not beyond, whereas their implementation will mean further development of software and technology.

As our interviewee adds, Hydrogen Technologies aims to be the first company in the region to have its own hydrogen station.
