A step towards Joint Staff building rehabilitation - Preparation works for demolishing of unusable building parts start
The minister of defense, Bratislav Gasic says that Belgrade-based Elita-kop which provided the best offer in public procurement will work on demolishing of Block A of the Joint Staff building.
Gasic said the façade of the rehabilitated building will be decorated with red stone and white marble from Brac in the future as well.
The head of the Directorate for infrastructure at the Ministry of Defense, colonel Milorad Djokic, said demolishing has been in progress as planned and planned protection measures have been conducted.
- Estimated area for demolishing is app. 5.000 m2. Very complex technique will be used in these works by Elita-kop – colonel Djokic explained.
The Joint Staff building was hit twice in NATO bombing 1999, April 29 and May 7. According to the recommendation of the Bureau for cultural monuments protection, after demolishing instable parts, reconstruction and return of the facility in previous condition is planned.
Poster instead of façade
This year, the Ministry of Defense demolished the access and stairs from the former Joint Staff building across the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Today, demolished building is covered with promotional poster of the Army of Serbia and grass and decorative plants has been planted around it.
